Beet cake.

I am creating banana bread. It is baking in the oven and I can smell it. And it smells good. This video makes my banana-bread-creating seem very pedestrian. I do not have gorgeous jars of beets in my pantry. But if I did… I would make this beet cake! It looks sensational. This video is so tactile and sensual I can almost taste it. (Thumbs up to Tiger in a Jar!)

Lately, I have been asked about my baking abilities. Generally in reference to macarons. I want to say Yes. Yes, I am a wonderful baker. The truth is No. No, I do not bake. This banana bread is an absolute exception and I fear it will be terrible. I want to bake. Correction. I want to be the sort of person that bakes. I want baking in my house. I want people to come over and eat homemade tea cake with me. I am in awe of people that bake, especially tricksy little darlings like macarons. That awe and fascination led to a book that I wrote, you might have heard of it…

Anyway, I can say, hand on heart, that I love to eat. I eat a lot. I eat a lot of baking. I am a very grateful, observant, delighted eater. I am an expert eater, you see. I can tell you what tastes good, that is for sure. And hopefully, this banana bread tastes good.

If not, I am finding myself some beets.

    Great minds….I made banana bread too! If yours was good enough to inspire you to make something else (and even if not), I can recommend the chocolate zucchini cupcakes in the Rebar cookbook. Seriously easy. Seriously delicious.

      They sound delicious! My Mum used to make a mean zucchini bread… As for the banana bread, it was terrible. Sigh.
