Gee is a whiz.

I’ve been researching book trailers lately, toying with the idea of creating my own. I was feeling relatively optimistic when I waded into these waters and now I have seen this trailer and many more out there that are so jaw dropping and mesmerizing, I am feeling a little out of my depth…

What I love about book trailers is not just the combination of books and film marketing, (although I do love that aspect…it’s inspiring when creative marriages happen, don’t you think?), it’s that many of them are designed and executed by the authors. {Not this one, I am guessing, but Maurice Gee is a marvel nonetheless} It just goes to show that our strengths are not one dimensional or easily pigeon-holed. “You can write, hey? Well, them’s words my friend, don’t go messin’ about with film / photography / craft / cake design / pottery…” On the other hand, this form of creativity might make some authors shake their heads, no thanks. It all depends on the wiring in our noggins. The sweet, strange mysteries up there that make each of us unique. I love that we don’t neatly tick checklists or fit tests that are designed to tell us who we are and what we should do. Which is why it is so important to do your own research.

And with that I am off to explore the notion that I might be able to create a book trailer. Gulp. Maybe.

P.S. For more book trailer inspiration check out The Moby Awards which showcase the year’s hits and misses.
